Description of the various stages

 

  THE BEGINNING STAGES 

 

LEVEL 1

  • Talk: The Xiantianwujimen and Yiquan Qigong Lineages
  • Introduction to Xiantianwujimen and Yiquan Zhangzhuan
  • No prerequisites

 

LEVEL 2

  • Talk: The Triplex Unity and the Energetic Map of the Body
  • The Nine Self-Massage System
  • Twelve Devas Tendon-Changing System
  • Prerequisite: Level 1

 

LEVEL 3

  • Talk: The Gourd and the Cauldron - The Interactive Influences Between Chinese Medicine and Daoism
  • Hua Tu's Animal Forms
  • Begin Immortal's Guide to Self-Massage and Breath Regulation
  • Begin Red Phoenix Calisthenics
  • Continue with Yiquan Zhangzhuan
  • Prerequisite: Level 2

 

LEVEL 4

  • Talk: The Daoist Path of the Dual Cultivation of Body and Mind - The Union of Xiantianwujimen, Yiquan, and Wudang Shan Lineages
  • Begin Wudang Five Animals Form
  • Continue with Immortal's Guide to Self-Massage and Breath Regulation
  • Continue with Red Phoenix Calisthenics
  • Complete Yiquan Zhangzhuan
  • Prerequisite: Level 3

 

LEVEL 5

  • Talk: External and Internal Strengthening in Daoist Internal Alchemy
  • Complete Wudang Five Animals Form
  • Complete Immortal's Guide to Self-Massage and Breath Regulation
  • Complete Red Phoenix Calisthenics
  • Prerequisite: Level 4

 

  THE INTERMEDIATE STAGES 

 

Tendon-Changing/Marrow-Washing Intensive

  • Talk: The Warrior Qigong Lineage and Practice
  • The Eight Basic Wudang Warrior Qigong Forms
  • Special focus on tendon-changing and marrow-washing forms in the Twelve Devas, Hua Tu's Five Animals, Immortal's Guide to Self-Massage and Breath Regulation, Red Phoenix Calisthenics, and Wudang Five Animals Forms
  • Prerequisite: Levels 1 through 5
  • This is a prerequisite for Level 6

 

Animal Forms Intensive

  • Special training in Hua Tu's Five Animals, Wudang Five Animals Forms,and selected animal forms in the Twelve Devas
  • Prerequisite: Levels 1 through 5, Tendon-Changing/Marrow-Washing Intensive
  • This is a prerequisite for Level 6

 

Breath Regulation Intensive

  • Talk: Breath, Vital Energy, and Vapor
  • Instruction in Fish Breathing and Fetal Breathing Techniques from Immortal's Guide to Self-Massage and Breath Regulation and Red Phoenix Calisthenics
  • Prerequisites: Levels 1 through 5 and Tendon-Changing/Marrow-Washing Intensive
  • This is a prerequisite for Level 6

 

Standing Qigong Intensive

  • Talk: Zhou Dunyi's Treatise on the Taiji Principle
  • The Twelve Wudang Standing Qigong Forms
  • Individualized instruction in the eight postures of Yiquan Zhangzhuan.
  • Prerequisites: Levels 1 through 5 and Tendon-Changing/Marrow-Washing Intensive
  • This is a prerequisite for Level 6

 

Wudangshan Animals Long Form Intensive

  • The long forms of Wudangshan Tiger, Dragon, Leopard, Snake, and Crane
  • Prerequisites: Tendon-Changing/Marrow-Washing Intensive, Animal Forms Intensive
  • This is a prerequisite for Level 6

 

LEVEL 6

  • Talk: The Chinese Calendar and the Seasonal Movement of Energy
  • The Dragon-Tiger Frolics
  • Chen Xiyi's Twenty-four Seasons Qigong
  • Wudangshan Seven Stars Qigong
  • Specialized forms from Immortals Guide to Self-Massage and Breath Regulation and Red Phoenix Calisthenics for internal strengthening
  • Prerequisites: Levels 1 through 5 and all five intensives

 

 

THE ADVANCED STAGES  

 

LEVEL 7

  • Talk 1: The Three Treasures - Jing, Qi, and Shen
  • Talk 2: The Cultivation, Preservation, and Circulation of Generative Energy
  • Techniques of arousing the fire of the lower dantien for the transmutation of generative energy (jing) into vital energy:
    • Cultivating the lower dantien
    • Stoking the warrior fire for the transmutation of jing
    • Stoking the scholar fire for the storage of jing
  • Prerequisites: Levels 1 through 5, all four intensives, personal interview, and written permission from the lineage carriers or senior teachers
  • This level is conducted in retreat format incorporating sleeping qigong and sitting qigong

 

LEVEL 8

  • Talk 1: The Cultivation, Preservation, and Circulation of Vital Energy
  • Talk 2: The Jade and Golden Elixirs
  • Techniques of the transmutation of vital energy (qi) into spirit energy (shen)
    • Cultivating the middle dantien
    • Stoking the warrior fire for the transmutation of qi
    • Stoking the scholar fire for the storage of qi
  • Prerequisites: Level 7, personal interview, and written permission from the lineage carriers or senior teachers
  • This level is conducted in retreat format incorporating sleeping qigong and sitting qigong

 

LEVEL 9

  • Talk 1: The Cultivation, Preservation, and Circulation of Spirit Energy
  • Talk 2: The Microcosmic Orbit
  • Techniques of the transmutation of spirit energy (shen) to return to the Void
    • Cultivating the upper dantien
    • Returning to the Void
  • Prerequisites: Level 8, personal interview, and written permission from the lineage carriers or senior teachers
  • This level is conducted in retreat format incorporating sleeping qigong and sitting qigong
